Description | The following HBA does not work with the 4.18.0-553.el8_10.x86_64 or 6.8.8-1.el8.elrepo.x86_64 kernels. 03:00.0 InfiniBand [0c06]: QLogic Corp. IBA7322 QDR InfiniBand HCA [1077:7322] (rev 02) Can the dd-ib_qib-1.11-2.el8_5.elrepo.iso DUD be rebuilt for RHEL8.10 please? Similar to 0000934 please? Alternatively if you want to provide the steps to allow me to try to do it myself I'm happy to give it a go. Sorry if my google foo let me down on how to find it. | ||||
Steps To Reproduce | Install Rocky Linux 8.10 on machine with QLogic Corp. IBA7322 QDR InfiniBand HCA. Install InfiniBand support. Configure machine as per "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 - Configuring InfiniBand and RDMA networks - Configuring and managing high-speed network protocols and RDMA hardware": https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/8/pdf/configuring_infiniband_and_rdma_networks/red_hat_enterprise_linux-8-configuring_infiniband_and_rdma_networks-en-us.pdf. Perform tests from that document and many fail. | ||||
Additional Information | Results of testing early infiniband rdma operations from rhel doc above shows the link layer as Ethernet when InfiniBand is expected. Using qperf - started qperf server on RHEL8 machine and tried to connect to it from another RHEL8 machine which failed as follows. Good news! We have the following packages sync'ing to our mirrors: kmod-ib_qib-1.11-3.el8_10.elrepo.x86_64.rpm kmod-ib_qib-1.11-3.el8_10.elrepo.src.rpm I was not able to test it against actual hardware, but it at least loads/unloads without any issues. Please provide feedback. |

Do you need the DUD for this or can you get by with just the RPM for now? |

Just want to let it be known, that I've never used Infiniband, so please forgive my ignorance. For your use case, you're using it as a physical link layer for Ethernet (opposed to twisted pair)? Also can you send the output of "tree /sys/class/infiniband"? If you can send the output of what EL7 and EL8 show, that would be helpful. |

No ignorance to forgive. We are using InfiniBand as a physical link layer for the InfiniBand protocol. Instead of for the Ethernet protocol. @fsidoli - Thanks for your feedback too. Interesting that HW V1's Port1 isn't being activated like the HW V2 cards. Are your cards plugged into an IB switch or back-to-back? -- Just throwing this out there...but do either of you have a pair of IB cards and an IB cable for loan? |

Thanks for testing the "-4" RPM. Interesting that in your "ibstat" output, it changed the "Physical state" from "Disabled" to "Sleep". So it appears that the libibverbs[-utils] is now missing the driver for the QLogic devices (i.e. ipathverbs). Let me see if I can make an RPM to install the missing ones. |

I might be able to facilitate remote access to a pair of servers with RL8.10 and the hardware. Is that something that might work for you? If so, let me know and we can talk off list if that suits. @smcgrat - Probably not worth it at this point. I know the libibverbs is missing the QLogic driver (removed by Red Hat), so I am going to make an RPM for that. |

I have an ib_qib-ibverbs package which restores the libibverbs driver for the Intel/QLogic InfiniPath HCA's. I'm guessing that the users of our initial kmod-ib_qib package (working on <=RHEL 8.5) were not using the verbs API...possibly only IPoverIB or something like that. |

That is good news so far. You can use qperf to benchmark the link between them. I have no clue how to troubleshoot your IB switch though. I assume someone you work with has access to the management UI of it. If @smcgrat confirms the kmod and ibverbs drivers are working, I will get the RPM's repackaged and pushed for distribution. |

I have been able to test this too although I did find I need to reactivate the cards on reboot, with the 'ibportstate --Direct 0 1 enable' command. @tqhoang, can you let me know when the rpms are live and I'll test out a fresh build from scratch please.
