Description | Hi, Redhat has released a new kernel 4.18.0-80.11.1 for RHEL 8 kindly build kmod-megaraid_sas for the new kernel thanks.
Additional Information | The current kmod-megaraid_sas installs to /lib/modules/4.18.0-80.el8.x86_64/extra/megaraid_sas/megaraid_sas.ko where now it should be /lib/modules/4.18.0-80.11.1.el8_0.x86_64/

Hi, Our kmod packages are kABI tracking, meaning they do not require rebuilding for each and every kernel release. They should just work across kernel updates. However, there is a known bug in the dracut package in RHEL8 which breaks things. RH are working on a fix, but it has not been publicly released yet. We have backported the fix and rebuilt a version of dracut which fixes the issue. I would recommend you update to our patched version of dracut until RH are able to release their fixed version. You can download the patched version of dracut here: http://elrepo.org/people/akemi/testing/el8/dracut/ Once you have updated dracut, if you then uninstall/reinstall the latest kernel, megaraid_sas should then work when you reboot to the new kernel. It is important you (re)install the new kernel *after* you have updated dracut, not before. |

More information in available in this bug: https://elrepo.org/bugs/view.php?id=919 and affects all el8 kmod packages. The fix is described in post 0006408 (currently the last post) |

Still testing RHEL 8 Developer Edition. Will try it out. thanks. |
|
Working now. But i had to remove the default megaraid_sas /usr/lib/modules/4.18.0-80.11.2.el8_0.x86_64/kernel/drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_sas.ko.xz for the elrepo megaraid_sas module to work. thanks. |
|
Not sure why you would need to remove the distro driver, as an override should be in place (see /etc/depmod.d/kmod-megaraid_sas.conf). Anyway, glad to hear you have it working. |

Hi, RHEL 8.1 got released. module not working. modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'megaraid_sas': Invalid argument Looks like an update is needed. thanks |
|
Hi, We are in the process of rebuilding all packages for the RHEL8.1 release. In the meantime, rebooting to the last 8.0 series kernel should allow the module to work if it is critical to you. |

Packages for el8.1 are in the testing repository. Marking as resolved |
