Acknowledged :) It's on the to do list. We've just about wrapped up the other legacy nvidia driver (96xx) so will look at this one next. |

Thanks! I really appreciate it. I'll give them a shot and report back in a few days. I probably wont be able to test across a re-boot until the next kernel upgrade though (the machine with the card requiring this driver is in use). Thanks again! |

Great, no problem (and sorry it's taken so long!) I wouldn't expect any issues for minor kernel updates within a point release. The big test will come at the next point release when we see if Red Hat breaks anything within the kABI that affects the nvidia driver. As soon as Red Hat releases beta kernels for RHEL5.5 we will test all elrepo packages and rebuild any that need attention so we have updated packages ready for the release of 5.5 where needed. To give you some insight, the current nvidia driver (and I suspect the same is true of this legacy release) was originally built against 5.3 and had no issues going forward to 5.4. However, it doesn't weak-link back to 5.2 and earlier telling us that Red Hat changed the kABI between 5.2 and 5.3 in a way that affects the nvidia package. So we will wait and see for 5.5, but I certainly wouldn't expect and kABI breakage within a point release. |

Hello, Just reporting in that I killed X, uninstalled the official nvidia driver, unloaded the nvidia module, installed the elrepo 173xx packages (i386) and restarted X and all is working well. I'll let you know after a reboot if there is a problem but, as you said, it's unlikely that there will be an issue. Thank you again for this, |

Great, thanks! As you're probably the only user of these packages atm, we will be guided by you as to if you feel they are OK to push to the main repo for release. If they behave as expected, then that's good enough for me. If you get the chance, please could you provide the output from the following at your convenience: rpm -qa kernel find /lib -name nvidia.ko just so we can see all looks in order. Thanks |

My apologies for re-opening the issue. I notice that the package is now in the standard repository but I promised I'd report back after I rebooted me machine with this card in it. I just wanted to report that we've had a kernel upgrade and I rebooted into the new kernel and the driver is working perfectly. Thank you again for all your work on this. |
