Summary | 0001009: Request for a linux dd image to use at install time for HP Proliant DL380 G5 using CentOS 8.1
Description | I am trying to install CentOS 8.1 on the above mentioned machine; it fails due to RHEL dropping support for the controllers. As CentOS7 is due to expire in 4 years (and who wants to go through all this again?) it would be great if it could be made to redetect the controller as it used to pre-CentOS5. I have created the other usb using with 'dd linux' command and I have tried it sucessfully with CentOS7 using DUP_cciss_el7_1_x86_64.iso from http://elrepo.org/people/akemi/testing/el7/isos/ with the Smart Array controller being displayed and have yet to test the actual install. The issue is explained below for CentOS7 which had some success: https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=51302&p=217644#p217644 https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=47011&start=10 Please we aware I am only now dipping my toe into linux waters and whilst I have been absorbing knowledge as fast as my mind allows me I may need some guidance on certain things. Having a more up to date that pushes the expiry, and hence increases the usability of the hardware would help a lot of servers out there running the latest CentOS.

One other thing. The success I've had with the 7.1 driver on CentOS7 is only partial. I can get it to install but cannot get the drivers to 'stick/install' on reboot resulting a missing controller |
|
Please see: https://elrepo.org/bugs/view.php?id=951 Unfortunately this driver has been deprecated and removed from the upstream kernel (not just the RHEL kernel). The last upstream source fails to build on RHEL8 so we are unable to package this driver. I am sorry but we do not have a viable solution for this problem at this time. |
|
With regard to the el7 issue - you may need to update the driver after installation to match the kernel you are rebooting to. If you require further assistance with that, please file a separate issue against the cciss driver under el7. Thanks |

Thanks for that mate. Appreciate all your work. I eventually got it working on CentOS7. |
