| Summary | 0001586: Build kernel-ml-7.0.0-0.rc2 | ||||
| Description | ** This ticket is for the record ** Observations: The el8 kernel builds OK. The el9 and el10 kernels fail to build. The following error is seen in el9 and el10 builds. /builddir/build/BUILD/kernel-ml-7.0.0/linux-7.0.0-0.rc2.el9.elrepo.x86_64/drivers/cxl/acpi.c:758: undefined reference to `devm_cxl_add_nvdimm_bridge' Google says: Version Change: In some kernel versions (specifically noted around 7.0-rc2/5.14+), the function was explicitly moved to cxl_pmem.ko. If your code relies on it being in cxl_core but it has moved to cxl_pmem, you may get this error. Google also says: If CONFIG_CXL_BUS is built-in (y) but CONFIG_CXL_PMEM is a module (m), you may encounter linking issues depending on how other drivers (like cxl_root) attempt to call this bridge function. Try setting both to the same value (either both y or both m) to ensure symbols are visible during the link stage. Solution: (1) Set both CONFIG_CXL_BUS and CONFIG_CXL_PMEM to =y ==> Did not work. Upon rnning 'make oldconfig', CONFIG_CXL_PMEM was changed to =m. (2) Set both CONFIG_CXL_BUS and CONFIG_CXL_PMEM to =m ==> This worked out. It also changed several other CXL-related options to =m. | ||||
