Platform | x86_64_Linux | OS | Rocky Linux 8.10 | OS Version | 4.18 |
Summary | 0001526: MediaTek MT7925 wifi 7 controller not supported
Description | I bought an ASUS TUF Gaming Motherboard (X870-PLUS WIFI) in May and I am trying to setup Rocky Linux 8.10 on it. Sadly, it seems it is not supported by default. I have tried to install Centos10 on the same hardware and the OS can recognize the MT7925 wifi 7 controller and works well. Any help with this will be very appreciated.

You have 2 choices. One is to use EL9 (Rocky9 in your case) instead of EL8. MT7925 is enabled in the EL9 kernel but not in EL8. Another choice will be to use our kernel-ml. Currently MT7925 is disabled but we will be enabling it (see bug#1528). |
Hi Toracat, Currently my kernel version is 4.18.0-553.el8_10.x86_64. Do you mean I should switch to kernel-ml so that I can have MT7925 driver work? |
@Song, If you'd like to stay with the el8 kernel, yes, use of kernel-ml is the way to go. But wait for the next update to the kernel-ml package in which MT7925 is enabled. If you can upgrade to el9, then there will be no need to use non-distro kernels like kernel-ml because MT7925 is natively supported in the distro kernel. |
@toracat, Yes I would like to stay with el8 kernel. May I know when will be the next update for kernel-ml? or, is it possible to build a rmp package that can be install on el8 for MT7925 driver? |
@Song - I am trying to backport the mt7925 driver to the EL8 kernel. I'm not sure if it'll work, but please be patient...may take a week or so. |
@Song, There is no set date for the next kernel-ml release. This is entirely up to the kernel.org developers. But it will probably be sometime later this week. |
The latest kernel-ml set for el8, kernel-ml-6.14.6-1.el8.elrepo, now has the MT7925 driver enabled. |
