Platform | x86_64 | OS | RockyLinux | OS Version | 8.6 |
Summary | 0001230: no device generated after upgrade to 8.6
Description | After upgrading Rocky 8.5 to 8.6 no longer network devices are created. The kernel module seems to load: 09:05.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82557/8/9/0/1 Ethernet Pro 100 (rev 02) Subsystem: Intel Corporation EtherExpress PRO/100B (TX) Kernel modules: e100 but some errors are observed in /var/log/messages: kernel: pci 0000:09:05.0: Firmware left e100 interrupts enabled; disabling kernel: e100: probe of 0000:09:05.0 failed with error -5 I have several NIC's (also a dual one) in 2 different systems, all with the same result. Previous versions of Rocky (and CentOS) ran fine. Kind Regards

Can you test-install kernel-ml? This is to test if the version of e100 driver in the latest kernel works. |
|
Done so (5.18.1-1.el8.elrepo.x86_64) and indeed this does work. Interfaces reappeared and are sending and receiving data correctly /var/log/messages: kernel: e100 0000:02:05.0 eth1: addr 0xfdbfe000, irq 18, MAC addr 00:03:47:4e:0c:5d kernel: e100 0000:02:05.0 enp2s5: renamed from eth1 |

Alright, now we'll see what our backport specialist would say. |
|
I'm not sure what the issue is, but looks like it might be firmware related, although I'm not aware anything would have changed. As a first step, I've rebuilt the current package against the el8.6 kernel to see if that fixes it for you. Updated packages should be available on our mirrors shortly: kmod-e100-3.5.24-6.el8_6.elrepo.x86_64.rpm Please can you try this updated package with your Rocky el8.6 kernel and let us know how you get on. Thanks. The following output is always useful when troubleshooting: find /lib/modules -name e100\* modinfo e100 (run under the kernel for which it's not working) |
|
After upgrading to kmod-e100-3.5.24-6.el8_6.elrepo.x86_64.rpm everything is running back fine. Many thanks to all of you at ELRepo for doing a great job! Kind Regards |
