Summary | 0000851: knod-r8168 not working under CentOS 7.5
Description | I updated my box to CentOS 7.5 and networking failed. I booted the previous kernel and networking worked. I think that the problem is that the module is in /lib/modules/3.10.0-693.el7.x86_64/extra but it needs to be in /lib/modules/3.10.0-862.el7.x86_64/extra/

As discussed on IRC #elrepo, it is recommended that you try the in-kernel driver first. If you wish to test the kmod-r8168 package built against EL 7.5 kernels, it will be available in our testing repository shortly (syncing to mirrors): kmod-r8168-8.045.08-2.el7_5.elrepo.x86_64.rpm It is not backward compatible with earlier kernels. We don't have proper hardware to test this package, so no idea if it works. |

Thanks for the report. Good to hear the updated version works. I have one question. Did the in-kernel driver not work? |
|
The last time I tried in-kernel driver was when I first installed CentOS 7.0 on its day of release. I added the ElRepo repository very quickly after the install in order to solve problems with the Nvidia driver for the Titan display card. I believe I added the ElRepo r8168 driver at that time due to some network problems with the r8168... It has been a while since that day... and I don't see any of my notes on that original install around... Sorry! --brock |

The kmod-r8168 package has just been promoted to the elrepo main repository. Closing as 'resolved'. |
