This was fixed by a yum reinstall if the kmod-nvidia-340xx rpm package. I thought this would not be needed? |

Correct, it should not be needed, the driver should automatically weak link against the new kernel when the new kernel is installed (assuming the kernel is compatible). Can you replicate the issue? If so, please describe the steps to replicate. |

I did reproduce it by restoring to a backup and yum updating again. I suspect that recently I may manually deleted files/folders in /lib/modules which may have broken this? |

Yes, the kernel module is actually installed to /lib/modules/{kernel version}/extra/nvidia-340xx/ where {kernel version} is the kernel version the module was built against. You may not have this kernel version installed, so deleting this folder will remove the module. The kernel module is then linked to compatible kernels in /lib/modules/{kernel version}/weak-updates/nvidia-340xx/ for all installed compatible kernels. |

Trying to install on a fresh Centos 7.3 installed box I get: Error: Package: kmod-nvidia-340xx-340.102-3.el7_4.elrepo.x86_64 (elrepo) Requires: kernel(vmemmap_base) = 0x97651e6c I worked around it by explicitly installing kmod-nvidia-340xx-340.102-2.el7.elrepo |
