Summary0000703: Kernel Panic with VMXNET3 on ESXi 6.5 Host
DescriptionBefore upgrading to kernel-ml newer than version 4.8, the server worked like charms, but after upgrading to kernel-ml 4.8.x (and even the latest 4.9.0), the guest (Running CentOS 7 with kernel-ml) will stop responding in several hours after booting.

Host OS : VMware ESXi 6.5 GA
Virtual HW Revision : 13 (latest)
Additional InformationThe guest OS will work without this issue if I changed the kernel back to kernel-lt or stock CentOS kernel.

Looks like it's most likely a bug in the kernel code:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1650635

The issue is not related to packaging, so you just need to wait for the bug to be fixed upstream (kernel.org). Hopefully it does not take long since Ubuntu kernel team is now aware of the problem.

Hello,

But this issue doesn't affect VMs with kernel-lt, I have another VM on the same host with kernel-lt v.4.4.36, it works like a charm.

And after replacing the kernel of some affected VM with kernel-lt, the affected VMs became no longer freeze.

OK, the bug described in that bug report has indeed been fixed in recent kernels >= 4.7.

I suggest you file a bug report upstream at http://bugzilla.kernel.org .
