Summary | 0000570: RHEL 7 dropped support for megaraid_mbox RAID driver
Description | We are unable to migrate some servers to CentOS 7 because driver support for the Perc4 RAID controller used in those machines has been dropped. Any chance elrepo could package up support for this controller?
Additional Information | lscpi output: 02:0e.0 RAID bus controller [0104]: Dell PowerEdge Expandable RAID controller 4 [1028:0013] (rev 06)

Yes, this is something we can probably do. We will look into it and report back here. |

We will also need to make a driver disk if you need to install to these controllers. As a side note, is there no way you can install using software raid on these controllers (JBOD or something?). IMHO that would be preferable to us backporting a raid driver for you. Assuming we can backport the driver there is no guarantee that we will be able to maintain it for the lifetime of RHEL7 if RH update underlying subsystems in subsequent releases that the driver code depends upon. Worst case, you could find yourself stuck on a point release and unable to update your system. Just something for you to consider when planning your migration. |

I'll see if I can bypass the controller. If so, using JBOD would be sufficient for these machines. I'll report back. Thanks for the quick response. |

Success. After various firmware updates and BIOS setting changes, we've got everything working with software RAID. Thanks for the suggestion. No need to backport driver. |
|
Thanks for reporting back. I just think this solution gives you a more reliable route forward for the lifespan of rhel7. |

Can we still get this driver built up as a kmod? I have an existing system using an LSI 150-4 Raid controller (raid-5) and would really appreciate a backported diver. (Just waited a whole day upgrading to CentOS 7 on the box to find out it doesn't support the raid controller anymore!!).. Luckily I still have the old OS install on a separate harddrive. |
