Summary0001155: support for firewire in anticipation...
Description```
[ 5.867054] Warning: firewire - this hardware is not recommended for new deployments. It continues to be supported in this CentOS Linux release, but it is likely to be removed in the next major release. Driver updates and fixes for this device will be limited to critical issues. Please contact CentOS Linux Support or your device's hardware vendor for additional information.

Hi, @toracat & @pperry were very helpful a year or so ago when RH dropped support for iwlegacy and sata_uli with bugs 959 & 984.

Now, RH is threatening to drop support for firewire, see above. So, I thought to get ahead of the curve and suggest ELRepo support firewire. It seems criminal to me - it casts adrift a whole industry in sound engineering. Perhaps I'm being overly dramatic and everyone junked their expensive firewire audio production kit by now.

Just an idea.
Thanks.

While firewire is enabled in EL 8 and I don't think this would change midterm, it is disabled in EL 9beta that has just been released. So maybe the kmod will be needed in EL 9.

Would like to plea for continued FireWire support. I offer digital transfers from DV and miniDV tapes to local community needs. Thank you! I rather not move to another platform as DaVinci Resolve plays well downstream RHEL.

Can I suggest, as the CentOS kmods SIG is now up and running (who support kmods for CentOS Stream), it might be a good idea to contact them and request a kmod for firewire for Stream9 so you can start testing this on Stream9 or the RHEL9 beta ready for release.
We can then look to support RHEL9 once it is released.
