Summary0001053: Centos 8 installs but does not boot, using kmod-megaraid_sas
DescriptionHi,

Our Dell R520 has the following disk configuration:
- Perc H310 mini RAID controller with two idential drives (1 TB SAS)
- 1 SSD Samsung SATA (for experiments)

At first, Centos 8 does not recognize the Raid controller during install because of the removal of tons of drivers in Centos 8.

After trying a few elrepo-drivers, the megaraid_sas drivers recognizes the Raid configuration. The Centos 8 installations goes flawless using these drivers. The installation went exactly like on the Youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fOAuXiynYM (except different driver).

However, after successfull installation Centos 8 does not start, the screen remains black. Not even the Centos startscreen appears.

Are the elrepo-drivers not installed during installation? Should I use different drivers?

Sidenote:
- Installation and running Centos 7 on RAID works fine
- Installation and running Centos 8 on SATA SSD driver works fine

If the driver recognises your raid array and allows installation, then clearly it is the correct driver.

Just guessing, as there isn't much to work with here, but is the driver in your initramfs after installation? If not, you may need to recreate the initramfs before you reboot the installation.

Hmm, though I use Centos little over a decade now, this is new to me.

How do I recreate the initramfs during the installation and before reboot? The (graphical) installation process has no possibility to do some manual stuff before rebooting.

Sorry, just learning

Forget about my previous note...

I get messages like
warning /dev/cl/root does not exists

and a bunch more. I'm trying to rebuild the initramfs now using old friend Google...
