Summary | 0000554: Request for a linux dd image to use at install time for HP DL385 G5p and DL360 G5 with CentOS 7
Description | I am trying to install CentOS 7 on the mentioned machines; it fails due to RHEL dropping support for the controllers. It would be nice if we could use your kmod-cciss driver like that, else we are getting in bigger problems; it is explained here https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=51302&p=217644#p217644 and here https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=47011&start=10 I tried to use the ddiskit-v2.5 for achieving that; but it fails, I think because it is ment for CentOS 6 not 7, even if edited the obvious files. Can you offer any help for the issue? It would help a lot of servers out there running the latest Centos.

I will have a look soon. Let's work together. :) |
|
I now have something for you to test. Please try DUP_cciss_el7_x86_64.iso in http://elrepo.org/people/akemi/testing/el7/isos/ . |

Thank you very much toracat! It is working OK so far - managed to install a system, now I am installing CentOS 7 on the second one. Was weird though because the drive (from the RAID1 HP array) appeared under "Specialized and Network Disks > Add a disk" which was something I didn't encountered before. Was at first desolated when I saw only my 16GB USB mem. stick  scared me to death :o But it did install OK and now as I said I am doing it on a second machine! Will post here if something goes berserk, but I doubt it. So people - you are doing it wrong: it was enough to ask politely the wonderful people at ELREPO http://elrepo.org/ (using Tiki, nice!) and they solved like in 2 hours! Wasted weeks on this one, rolled back to 6.6, tried again with 7, rolled back again and tried to cope with it, until it hit me: "wait, this is Linux, someone could help if there is a driver". I am copying this miracle .iso file on all my storages, servers, notebooks and PCs. Maybe on the phones too. Just in case :ugeek: Now I figure it will be enough to add the elrepo repo to get any future updates, right? One more thing - do you foresee any issues when one will upgrade to CentOS 7.1 which I think will hit us sooner than we think? |

Thank you for reporting back. Glad to learn it worked. We are still in the testing phase. Unlike our "regular" packages, ddisk iso files will not be in our usual repositories. Whether it works under EL7.1 will depend on the driver's compatibility. If it needs to be rebuilt against the newer kernel, the iso has to be rebuilt. So we will see. |
|
I have uploaded the ddiskit-v2.5-ay-cciss-el7.tar.gz file to http://elrepo.org/people/akemi/testing/el7/isos/ for anyone to see. One can use this as a template to build iso images for other drivers/versions. Edit kversions to change the kernel to build against. Add .el7 for EL7 builds. Have your driver tree at the top of the directory. For example, cciss/rpm/ Make sure the spec file has a format of <driver name>.spec in the source code. Edit subdirs to add/remove drivers. Then run 'make'. The iso file(s) will be in the images directory. |

Hello. I have been complaining with this same issue... I found that you could fix it with the help of toracat... Could you please tell me step by step how did you use the iso file to install the drivers? PLease... please!!!!! |

@feriniguez I know this is a late response, but I'd like to close this ticket. You can find the "howto" written by the reporter, fakemoth, in his CentOS forum post: https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=51302&start=10#p217799 |
