Summary0001179: there is no kmod-3w-9xxx package for el8_5
DescriptionElrepo contains kmod-3w-9xxx-2.26.02.014-6.el8_4.elrepo.x86_64.rpm package but no update for el8_5. This makes the update from 8.4 to 8.5 impossible on machine with hardware raid using that driver. Could you please build it for 8.5?

As far as I am aware, the current package should work fine with el8.5. Have you actually tried it?
ELRepo kmod packages use the stable kABI of the RHEL kernel, and if there are no changes to non-whitelisted symbols then these kmod packages will continue to work as expected. They only require rebuilding if there are changes to the ABI of non-whitelisted symbols used by that particular driver.
If you find the driver no longer works after upgrading to el8.5, please open a bug with the details and we can rebuild the driver for you, but all of our internal CI work shows this should not be necessary (unfortunately we do not have the real hardware to test).

It works indeed. Although at first I encountered a disaster. After upgrading to CentOS 8.5 and then manually upgrading kmod-3w-9xxx i ended up with unbootable system. It happens to have also Broadcom / LSI SAS1068E PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS controller (using mptsas driver). I am not sure why it did not work, finally I reinstalled Rocky Linux 8.4 (just in case) using two ElRepo driver disks (3w-9xxx and mptsas). This worked fine and now, after upgrading the system to 8.5 (incl. mptsas, excluding 3w-9xxx), it is still working. The 'mptsas' issue is somewhat strange as the native RL kernel seems to include mptsas.ko.
I do not know whether 3w-9xxx DUD version 8.4 would work if I installed system straight from RL 8.5 iso. But I won't try, it takes too much effort and time.
If this is not a problem, I would vote for updating the kmod-3w-9xxx to 8_5 also.
Thank you and Happy New Year!

Thank you for confirming it works.

Yes, you would need to update the kmod-mptsas as that one did need updating for el8.5, and it may well have prevented booting if you were trying to mount that device. Although the distro kernel contains an mpt3sas driver, support for many older (although still common) devices was dropped from the distro driver. The elrepo kmod-mpt3sas driver replaces the distro driver, restoring support for these dropped devices.

Sorry to reopen this issue but I would like to be sure. In the last note you mentioned mpt3sas driver instead of mptsas (w/o '3') which the issue was about. I can see both drivers are available in ElRepo. Do they support different hardware? Same hardware? If the latter, should one migrate to the '3' driver?

Sorry, my mistake. I meant mptsas (yes, mptsas and mpt3sas are different drivers supporting different hardware, and not to be confused!)
